Idling Along

Posted on: October 19th, 2011 by chris No Comments

Hello out there,

For any who were following my debut, you probably by now thought I’d died or given up; however, that is not the case. Instead, I was delayed a bit in receiving my published work by ‘a summer’. It all started as I began podcasting the 3rd chapter. I realized it sounded too sports-detailed for my liking, which almost certinly meant no one else would tolerate it; thus, they would put the book down and forget about it- or turn the podcast off and do the same; therefore, I put a stop to the submitted text being printed, and asked for a ‘re-tech’ on that chapter. This wound up taking the rest of the summer to achieve.

I decided next to delay podcasting also, because I didn’t know how long a ‘re-tech’ took. This meant that I loaded my last podcast ‘for the summer’ whilst I was in a Florida conveniene apartment in July. So you can tell I really suffered there…

Now I have the book in my hand and it is available to order. If you click on the BUY NOW box on the home page, you will find it quite orderable. Be advised that the price is low, but shipping costs are not included- and shipping one soft cover costs about 50% of the book cost. I believe it is ‘cheaper’ technically speaking to order the hard cover. I say that not because I make more on a hard cover- I definitely do not! I might advise people to buy it as an ebook if I want to make money. Ideally though, I want people to buy Idlers in any form that interests them, and because the material interests them as well- for me to get rich off this would only occur if some film star takes a shining to the material and wants to purchase the rights.

Hey, I can dream too can’t I?

I have been podcasting erratically since returning to it, but please bear with me, and I will try to be more consistent.

Thanks,

Chris

Today I will be recording the second chapter of Idlers at home. To keep the website podcast section from becoming a tad ‘busy’ looking, I will submit the first chapter in its entirety on Wednesday, which will be the day I begin to podcast my second chapter in installments. I will leave the first chapter in both instllment plus entire formats for one more week, and then I will edit out the installment section before I begin chapter three. In this way, I’ll keep things tidier.

Look for me to add some information about writing style and point of view by about mid-week.

I may not have the time to enter here daily at present. It is neither in my dispostion to do so; nor do I feel I rate your daily interest in viewing such a thing. I may adopt this format once I have less to write about in other areas. I plan to introduce several categories of Idlers information over the next few days, that should be more interesting than a blog entry.

After some delays, I now present my first novel in podcast form. To start with I will upload about 5-6 minutes worth daily. To listen, you only need to click on the daily entry, which has a volume control and a start/stop device. I will try to add the daily in the morning for consistency.

Keep an eye out for chapter changes. Chapter One is called ‘Raising a Little Hell.’ It will appear in seven parts.

Today I practised three chapters of reading towards the podcast. I am still a day or two away from placing it on the website for people to listen to, due to some unforseen tweaks that need sorting out.

Today marks a beginning for me. Today I start adding material to my website regularly at least, or daily at best. My objective as I begin, is to podcast my first book, and ideally my second as well. I have no idea how long this will take to achieve, nor what to expect, but my philosophy I can elaborate on: I think that the Internet is a phenomenal tool with which to promote many things, including one’s work.

I expect to have the first chapter of The Idlers of March available to listen to by the end of tomorrow. I do not intend any video accompaniment to start. On the one hand, it would bore people to watch someone reading, and on the other, I don’t want to risk a lawsuit by placing images of someone else’s ownership on my website, when to use them in the first place was of such minor importance. I will consult with my manager, and other experts, to discover ways to make the undertaking as visually appealing as possible, moving forward.
